Drinking Water Plant

All drinking water will be treated from source water, which is generally a freshwater lake, river, water well, or sometimes even a stream and Source water can be vulnerable to accidental or intentional contaminants and weather related or seasonal changes. Monitoring source water quality then it  enables you to anticipate changes to the treatment process.

Usually there is four steps for drinking water process

First step: Pre-treatment for source water, also called as Coagulation and Flocculation, particles will be integrated with chemicals to form a larger particles, then the larger particles will sink to the bottom.
Second step is Filtration, after sedimentation in pre treatment, the clear water will pass through the filters, usually, the filter is composed of sand, gravel, and charcoal) and pore size. To protect filters, we need to monitor turbidity, suspended solid, alkalinity and other water quality parameters.

Third step is disinfection process. This step is very important, after water filtered, we should add disinfectant in filtered water, such as chlorine, chloramine, it's order to kill remaining parasites, bacteria, and viruses, ensure water is safe when piped to home.
Fourth step is distribution, we have to measure pH, turbidity, hardness, residual chlorine, conductivity(TDS),then we can know the potential risks or threaten to public heath on time. The residual chlorine value should be over 0.3mg/L when be piped out from drinking water plant, and over 0.05mg/L at end of pipe network. Turbidity must less 1NTU, pH value is between 6.5~8,5, pipe will be corrosive if pH value is less 6.5pH and easy scale if pH is over 8.5pH.
