Detection Principle
Under alkaline conditions, using trisodium citrate as a masking agent, ammonia and ammonium ions in the water sample react with salicylate and hypochlorous acid ions in the presence of sodium nitroprusside. The absorbance of the resulting product is detected at a specific wavelength. According to Lambert Beer's law, there is a linear correlation between the ammonia nitrogen content in water and the absorbance, and the ammonia nitrogen concentration in water can be obtained.
