Application Cases of Biological Fermentation at Huazhong Agricultural University

Applied Products:
pH-5806 High-temperature pH Sensor
DOG-208FA High-temperature Dissolved Oxygen Sensor

The College of Life Sciences and Technology at Huazhong Agricultural University traces its origins to the microbiology discipline established by Academician Chen in the 1940s. On October 10, 1994, the college was formally founded through the integration of several departments, including the former Biotechnology Center of Huazhong Agricultural University, the microbiology division from the Department of Soil and Agricultural Chemistry, as well as the electron microscope room and the analytical testing room of the former Central Laboratory. As of September 2019, the College comprises three academic departments, eight teaching and research sections, and two experimental teaching centers. It offers three undergraduate programs and hosts two postdoctoral research workstations.

A research laboratory within the College of Life Sciences and Technology is equipped with two sets of 200L pilot-scale fermentation tanks, three 50L seed culture tanks, and a series of 30L bench-top experimental tanks. The laboratory conducts research involving a specific type of anaerobic bacteria and utilizes dissolved oxygen and pH electrodes developed and manufactured independently by Shanghai BOQU Instrument Co., Ltd. The pH electrode is employed to monitor and regulate the acidity or alkalinity of the bacterial growth environment, while the dissolved oxygen electrode tracks real-time changes in dissolved oxygen levels throughout the fermentation process. This data is used to adjust nitrogen supplementation flow rates and oversee subsequent fermentation stages. These sensors deliver performance comparable to that of imported brands in terms of measurement accuracy and response time, while significantly reducing operational costs for users.
